Requirements for Confirmation

So, You Want To Receive
The Sacrament Of Confirmation

There are some things you need to know in order to begin your journey. First of all, the journey is commonly a two-year program, which usually begins as early as the ninth grade. The earliest a youth can receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Diocese of San Diego (provided that they have already received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Reconciliation) is at the age of 15 and a Sophomore in High School. These are the following requirements for Saint Charles Parish in order to be confirmed:

· A youth must be properly instructed. In this case, a youth must complete Catechesis Sessions through out the academic year.
· A youth must attend at least one religious retreat either held by Saint Charles Parish or with another parish with the approval of the Youth Coordinator. A written report must be submitted.
· A youth must complete the required amount of Community Service hours as stated to them according to their year of Confirmation. A written report must be submitted.
· A youth must show signs of participation with other youth and/or Parish. Activities are scheduled. Plan to be involved. Written report must be submitted.
· A youth will compose a letter to Fr. Fernando Ramirez stating the youth's intentions to be Confirmed and why.
· Upon the completion of the previous requirements, a youth must submit their letter and reports and sign up for an interview (usually in January/February).
· An eight meeting session focused on Sacramental preparation will follow the successful completion of an interview. Attendance is critical.
· A youth must attend the Confirmation Ceremony as stated to them according to their year of Confirmation.

It sounds like a lot, huh. Well, if you are just beginning your journey you have a lot of time. If you keep in touch with the Youth Coordinator and stay clear on what you have to do then things should roll smoothly. As for those of you in your second year, if you have not started yet, it is still possible. It may be a little more difficult, but you can do it.
Receiving Confirmation is a conscious effort.
In a way, you have to confirm yourself with
God. So, let the journey begin!

Note: Confirmation for the 2005 Academic Year is April 30th at 10:00am
