Jan 10, 2008, Caritas Day.

Dear Friends of Saint Charles Caritas: Charity on the Border:

I hope all of you had a blessed weekend!

It was a wonderful day for all of us volunteers during the Caritas Day fund raising last Jan 18 & 19. The nuns and volunteers were in full force to start the new year 2009.

The Saint Charles Caritas awarded the VOLUNTEER OF THE 2ND HALF (July thru Dec 2008) to MS. DIANE MARTIN. Diane started volunteering more than 2 years ago. She is taking care of the Caritas Day set up every month. She has to do the set up 6 times during the fund raising. Its a lot of work and you have to be at the St. Charles patio very early in the morning and go home late. I know because I was doing these before. Diane's dedication, hard work and commitment to the cause is commendable. She is a model for our volunteers. She also makes sure that the nuns have water and food to eat during the Caritas Day. She is also in the finance audit team. Diane also works for Father Joe Carroll of St. Vincent de Paul Village. Before this she worked in the navy assigned in Italy (NATO). We thank GOD that Diane is with the Caritas. GOOD JOB DIANE!!!

Jan 18 & 19, Caritas Day, we had 28 volunteers: Diane Martin, all day  volunteer & took care of 6 masses, Cecilio & Lolita Salamanca (took care of the 5pm Sunday mass)12 Nuns from TJ, Sister Paula Smith, Sister Pauline, Christine Phillips, Mary Jane Delphenich, John & Ruth McDermott, Elvia Valdivieso, Jack Stroh (bought lunch for the nuns and volunteers),Alex Rullan, Marina VeraGreg & Evelyn Degano, & Eliane Rechs. Thank you very donors and volunteers! Also THANK YOU to the donors who drop off easy open top canned food for the poor families in the dump site. The nuns thank you all: The Palmer & Muffley families, Blanca Mendez, JoAnne O'Donnell, Mary Wilson, Diane Martin & others. We would like to continue to ask for this easy to open canned food.

Every 3rd Sunday of the month is the Caritas Day. Come & join us and enjoy helping the poor!

Just to let you know...the nuns from the Adoratrices del Santisimo are reading out loud the prayer intentions that they received from you, plus the mass offered monthly for all the people who help the Saint Charles Caritas.

Sincerely yours,

Merlyn Baker
