A Celtic Spiritual
weekend to be held in April 25, 26, 27th
, and ,08 it will be presented at
St. Charles,
on
990 Saturn Blvd
San Diego,
CA.
The presenters will be Rev. Fr. Timothy Joyce
OSB and Mrs. Mairead Doherty from the
Glastonbury Abbey,
Hingham,
MA.
Participants will
explore a considerable amount of the Celtic
spirit in history, art, music, story, poetry and
prayer. A variety of materials will be
available about the ancient custom of the Celts;
the distinctiveness of the Celtic Christian
Church (5-12th centuries); and
ensuing developments in
Ireland
and elsewhere that show how Celtic spirituality
differs in many ways with what many
Irish-Americans have experienced. Some aspects
of the older spirituality include the sacredness
of earth and the material world; a love of
learning; an intimate yearning to explore the
unknown; an appreciation of ordinary life as
lived with the Holy Trinity; the great value of
kinship relationship and soul friends; the
closeness of the other world; the harmony of
creation.
Fr. T. Joyce OSB
will show how Celtic spirituality appeals to
mind, body and spirit. It is both a joyous and
mystical as it affirms the goodness of creation
and the gifts of women; it blossoms in poetry,
myth and song.
